Freetown, 14 January, 2026. His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo warmly received a group of 19 Russian tourists in the capital, Freetown, on Tuesday. The visitors are in Sierra Leone as part of a tour of selected tourist destinations across the country.
The visit forms part of the Ambassador’s ongoing diplomatic and people-to-people engagement with the Russian Federation, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting Sierra Leone as an attractive tourism destination.

This development follows a humanitarian medical outreach conducted in December 2025, during which a 13-member Russian delegation, including 10 medical experts, visited Sierra Leone. The team, with support from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, provided free medical services to citizens nationwide and was warmly received by local communities.
With the anticipated reopening of the Russian Federation Embassy in Freetown, prospects are high for increased investment, tourism, and expanded collaboration across multiple sectors, further deepening ties between the two countries.
