His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo Honored for Distinguished Leadership


Ekaterinburg, 22 April 2026 – His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Russian Federation, was conferred with an award in recognition of his distinguished leadership and steadfast commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Russian Federation. The honour was bestowed during the plenary session of the Youth Economic Forum held in Ekaterinburg.

According to the University Administration, this recognition reflects His Excellency’s exemplary diplomatic engagement and sustained collaboration with Russian academic institutions, business communities, and prospective investors, all of which have contributed meaningfully to advancing mutual interests.


Since presenting his Letters of Credence, Ambassador Yongawo has remained resolute in promoting Sierra Leone’s foreign policy objectives, particularly by fostering deeper bilateral cooperation with the Russian Federation. Through strategic engagements with government officials, investors, and educational institutions, His Excellency has consistently highlighted Sierra Leone’s favorable investment climate and its national priority of human capital development through education and technological advancement.

Under his distinguished leadership, close to 200 Sierra Leonean students are currently studying across various disciplines in the Russian Federation, reflecting the strengthening of educational and cultural ties between the two nations.


During the Youth Economic Forum, His Excellency made notable contributions to high-level discussions and engagements with youth delegates representing universities from over 140 countries, thereby reinforcing international dialogue, cooperation, and shared development aspirations.
